Chloes' arrival into the World
This happened 6 months ago now, but believe me it's still fresh in my mind!!!! Chloe was due on the 7th May 2008 but that day came and went with no baby! I had already made an appointment to see my consultant at 40 weeks +5 days (I suffer from M.E so was under a consultant from the off) I saw a different Dr on Monday 12th May and she was happy to let me go another 2 weeks before booking me in for induction. My husband was having none of that so insisted I was admitted earlier. To our amazment she booked me in for the folllowing morning!!! We arrived at the hospital 8.30am sharp, we were shown into a side ward of about 6 beds where all the women for that days induction would be staying until things progressed to then be taken to a delivery suite. I was given a pessary at around 9 and told to sit tight and wait for things to happen. I'd already heard that induced labours were a mare so I prepared myself! By lunchtime I could really feel the twinges starting to come thick and fast. And asked if I could hop on the birthing ball ( I hasten to add we were still sharing our space with 3 other women and thier partners!) by about 5 I was using tens machine too and things were getting a touch uncomfortable. As Emmerdale was finishing at 7.30 I felt a very strange feeling down below......my husbands face as I yelled 'ewwwwwww my waters have broke!!!' he rushed to get the midwife and I was walked to the delivery suite. My hubby undressed me, got me into the good old paper knickers and sanitary liner and put my nighty on me ready for labour. I was checked and was 3cm dilated! The noise coming from either side of our room was enough to scare the **** out of the bravest women, screams, sounds of vomiting and diorreah NOT good! But I tried to ignore it and get comfortable on the bed. 8pm and the next shift of Midwife came and introduced herself and explained what to expect next. By 10pm I was getting really uncomfortable managing with the birthing ball and tens, so we discussed other options. Gas and air was a big no no for me, my close friends had all used it and been quite sick, and I hate being sick! I had originally decided to try and avoid an epidural, but now I was in pain and I WANTED IT!!!! I was just about to get my longed for pain relief when the Dr was called into an emerg section so I had to wait an hour. To take the edge of the pain I was given pethadine with an extra shot of anti sickness drug. So the epidural was in..........ahhhhhhhhh pure bliss. I was only 4cm dilated :( this was turning into a long day. I tried to sleep through the night, my husband slept on the floor using a bean bag as a matress and a birthing ball as a pillow! morning arrived and I was checked again.......still only 4cm arrrgh. We saw another shift change and our new Midwife was lovely(the previous also just as lovely). I was put onto an oxytocin drip to 'speed things up' but after 4 hours still 4cm dilated. It was 12 noon and the consultant was on his rounds he came in to heck on me and decided to leave me another 2hrs on the drip where he was sure I'd have dilated to at least 8cm. Babys' heart rate was fine and contractions were still coming thick and fast. 2pm and guess what? Still only 4cm!!!!! My God, how sick was I?! Consultant came and said he'd be happy to let me have another 2hrs on drip, but I was certainly not! I was offered a section and I took him up on his very kind offer. 3:10pm and Chloe Jemima arrived after a very long wait, she was perfect and I was wrecked! Its etched in my brain, I'll never forget the pain and reflief but she was well worth it. :happyspin:
