Darcy's birth!
Hello everyone thank you for all you lovely kind messages. We came home yesterday and settling in well.
So where do I start! Well finally went un for induction at 3pm on Friday but didnt end up being seen until 7pm!!!! When the MW examined me she said I was 4cm and would not need prostin just to have my waters broken. Waters went with a gush but there was mechonium (sp) in them so I had to stay on a monitor for a while.
Called my friend who is a mw at our local unit and who was going to deliver the baby and she came on in. We sat on the induction ward fighting with the stupid patientline telly that would not work and made me miss Eastenders (got very cross) By half nine I wasn't really having any significant contractions so my friend said I needed a drip to stimulate them and get labour going properly.
She admitted me to Labour ward and we had a fab room with a great big sofa and ensuite bathroom radio etc etc. (it was all about the stuff for DH who loved the sofa last time he sat on a really uncomfortable stool for eight hours and has never forgotton it!!!) Anethetist was called for my epidural (always been my birth plan to have one esp if induced) Anyway was a nightmare to get in apparantly I have scar tissue in my back from the two previous ones and although he could get the needle in the catheter would not thread in. He attemped it 7 times but would not work. I was getting quite upset by this point as was quite painful and was not helped by on the 5th time DH passed out as he saw the needle arghhhhh!!!!
I had a five min break and he said he would attemp one last try with me in a different position . So I laid on the bed on my side rather than sitting up and thank goodness it went in I was so so relieved DH passed out again but lost interest in him by that stage (bloody men!) I can remember the anethetist telling him to lie on the floor as he didnt want to have to suture a head injury aswel as do my epidural!
Epidural worked really well and drip that stimulted the contractions was tured up. I could still feel them but they were just like period pains and I still could feel my legs was fab. We had a rest for an hour or so and then at 1.45 I thought ooooooh that one hurt a bit! THen another one ooooch. It turns out the epidural had just dropped and stopped working. My friend examined me thinking I would be 6-7 cm and I was fully diallated!! She said I could either deliver the baby NOW or have a top up but this may delay delivery a bit. I said I wanted her out asap and would deliver now. DH went white and said are you sure????? ( both the girls were assisited deliveries in theatre under full epidural think he was a bit worried!!)
Anyway pushed with the gas and air threw up three times but within 10 mins and sooooo much encouoragement from DH and my friend I delivered her all by myself with just us and one extra midwife in the room. She was postierior so I delivered the largest part of her head but still managed it yippeeee! I cut the cord (couldnt have DH passing out for a third time) and she was placed straight on my tummy.
Unfortunately because of her being posterior she tore me really badly. I tore completly along the old epeisotomy scar I had from abigail and a bit in my bum!!! Ummmmmm nice. Had to go into theatre to be stitched that took about 40 mins so DH enjoyed some skin to skin time with Darcy which he loved and helped keep her calm until I got back with the food!
Anyway thats about it. Got back from theatre fed Darcy and after the spinal had worn off I had a nice bath and we went up to the ward. Stayed in for just one night as its really so so noisey wanted to come home and rest and be with the girls. They are really smitten and are trying to be really really helpful.
Darcy is feeding well and slept lots last night which made a real difference as I got 7 whole hours!!! She woke up starving though.
I can throroughly recommend having number 3 for anyone whos thinking about it!! (Lou???). The first time everything is so overwhealming and new its all a bit of a blur, the second time you spend most of the time worring how number one will adapt but a you can really enjoy the expeience of nuber three as its all been done before.
Thanks so much for all your support and help over the past nine months its not been the nicest of pregnancies but you guys have really helped me and its all been sooooooo worth it.
Take care
Mel
