Depo-provera - Contraceptive Injection
:hi: everyone
Not sure whether this is the correct place to be posting this message, so Raq, please feel free to move it if necessary. :duh:
Anyway, here's my story:
I've been on the Depo-Provera for around 6 - 7 years constantly. Before that, I was on the Pill from the age of 15 as my periods were a nightmare. My last injection was in June 2007 which meant September would have been my next month for the injection. I went back but told the doctor I no longer wanted to have it as Hubby and I wanted to start trying.
She explained that as I'd been on it for so long that it could take a year for my periods to come back. Well not me, my first one in 6 years was in October 2006 and it was hell. It lasted a good two and a half weeks and I was in agony.
Since then, my periods have come and gone month by month as normal but as yet no BPF :sad1:
I've read on the internet that it can take women who have been on the Depo-Provera up to three years to conceive so I was just wondering has anyone on the forum been on the injection for a long period of time and fallen pregnant? :help: :
I'm slowly but surely loosing faith, I know it's not even been a year yet and I should just be patient but can't help thinking there is something wrong with one of us
If nothing has happened by September, I'll go back to the doctors and see what they say but until then, I was just wondering whether anyone had been in a similar boat?
Thanks for reading if you've got this far. Trying to :hanginthere:

Hi Ellie
I wasn't on it for as long as you (15 months I think) but it took me a long while afterwards to conceive Ben.
I had my last jab in Feb 2004 (next one would have been due in May 2004 but I didn't have it as we wanted to TTC). My periods came back properly in September 2004, I got a BFP but had a very early m/c in Jan 2005 and then it took me until May 2006 to get the BFP which resulted in Ben.
Having said that, I've got other factors going against me - I'm 39 now and overweight too, both of which probably contributed to the delay in falling pg. But I'm pretty sure it was the depo injection which was mainly to blame and wouldn't have it again in a 100 years (not that we're planning on having any more babies)
HTH and :hanginthere: xx
So three months on and still no BFP for me :sad1:
August 06 would have been the last month the injection would have been covered for with September being the month I should have gone back for the next one.
So technically, it's almost been a year now....
Do I just be patient and hold on or do I go and see my doctor?
I am the most impatient person in the world and like my original post said, I am beginning to wonder whether there's something wrong with one of us?
After that "Make me a baby" documentary on BB3, I've been on at DH not to wear tight boxers, to keep his groin area cool :lol1: and basically becoming a practicing :spermy: specialist myself, ha ha ha!!
Anyway, please someone make me feel better about all this as I'm slowly but surely going round the twist with this TTC and failing!!
Ellie - You are not failing!! Your temple is just awaiting the right time to carry that bundle of joy for you!!!! Well this is how I am tryign to think at the minute anyway!
:hanginthere: :babydust: :bighug: :babydust1: :afnotallowed:
I hope you're right Linzi....
Hey you!
I hope you don't mind but I asked a friedn of mine who's recently been thru the same thing and here's what she said:
I had been on the depo injection for nearly 5 years, then my husband was off to do a tour of Iraq for six months and I saw no point in having the injections whilst he was away. So I had my last injection in December 2004. I waited for my period and nothing came until two weeks before my hubby was due back from his tour in October. During which time we had decided to try for babies. My first period was also hell, pain like no other I understand what you were going through. We started trying properly in November 2005 and fell pregnant in January 2006. It is possible. We were very lucky to be trying only 3 months and that's lucky for any couple let a lone one on the depo injection. But I am living proof that you can do it. I am now back on the injection and have been since my son was 6 weeks. However, I am coming off it. My weight gain has put me off.
Good luck, keep positive and don't loose faith.
Hope this helps???!!! xxx
No of course I don't mind, thanks for asking your friend for me. It has restored my faith in the injection although I wont ever be going back on it after all this. I honestly thought as soon as I came off the injection that I would fall immediately. How silly of me!!
Anyway, my OPT showing a surge and now this from your friend is encouraging, thanks CL!!!
I shall certainly be BD-ing tonight and increasing my chance for this month :tmi:
Thanks again!! xx
