Do any of you work nights?
I have been looking for jobs that I can fit around DH and have applied for what feel like hundreds and have not even managed an interview as there is soooooo much competition. I really do not relish the idea of working nights but have noticed a couple of vacancies. I was just wondering if any of you girls worked nights and how awful it really is LOL. I just can not imagine having to look after Leila after a night shift Rubyru

Not nights but I often work at night IYSWIM. More evening, when kids gone to bed. It just means you don't get a break and get nothing done, it gets frustrating in the day cos those jobs you would have done at night you are itching to do in the day but can't cos kids around and demanding. (see my separate post). If you mean actual night-shifts then I have no experience other than to say I really couldn't do it as I can't sleep in the daylight so wouldn't even be able to rest when the kids do. I know people who go out to work around 6pm till 9pm each evening and it works pretty well for them other than the same problems I experience.

HiRubyru, I used to work some nights at a hospital, I am a health care assistant. I am actually applying to for 'NHS Professionals' which is where you can work as and when and what suits you. So I will be able to pick my shifts around my DH's and other childcare. It is hard doing nights but as long as you try and get some sleep in the day it is almost bearable! lol I don't know how it will work with young children in the house though?! I will just have to see how it goes I think! I am thinking in the future when they are at school nights will probably fit in perfectly. As I will come home, do their breakfasts etc, take them to school and then go to bed for a few hours while they are at school. As long as you are working with nice people and are busy ( so you keep awake!) I think nights are ok. Some people just can't do them as it really messes with their body clock. Good luck with whatever you decide.

ME!!!! I left my old job after my maternity leave ended with Emma.... I then found a evening job (4pm til 11pm) working ina solicitors office - mainly keying work or filing but pays better than my day job did! Hubby arranged with his work to do a few hours a week from home and finished at 3pm - we did a quick hand over and I left for work. It's very hard but I managed - knowing I was pregnant and going to leave again anyway - i have now applied for part time hours and await the response!

I have applied for lots of evening jobs but they are just so popular, it seems I may have to do 10pm until 6am :( Rubyru

I used to do 9pm - 7am. VERY tiring!!! Think you would need to get someone to have Leila the day after for a few hours so you could get some sleep. Good Luck with applying for jobs. xxx
