does anyone know anything about employment rights???
I am really starting to worry here. My boss has basically told us in no uncertain terms that if things don't pick up by christmas she is going to lay 2 people off.
I had no reason to suspect that I would be one of them until I heard in the grapevine that she is keeping the people who is the most flexable. I am now worrying myself sick because I am not as flexable as some of the others. when I had my DD my boss offered me to work only my contracted hours of 16 hours (we normally work an extra 27 hours during the school holidays where as I continue to only do 16) now if push came to shove I could do the extra 27 hours but I would have to consult the nursery and pay more fees but it is doable. Also I can't work mornings (7-9am) because the nursery doesn't open till 8am.
I am not the only one to work like this, there is one other who has a DD too (she is related to boss). I have worked there for 5 years and worked for same boss different related job for a year and done all my training there so in all I have been there for 7 years. I am not last in there are 3 others in front of me (my dad keeps telling me it should be last in first out, he is high up in a union and knows his stuff but am wary of this information) one of which doesn't even have the qualification for the job and the other was just taken on a few months ago.
I have never had any complaints about me, my time keeping and attendance is impecable where as most of the others have had complaints about them at sometime or another.
My question is can she lay me off just because I am inflexable (something she told me I should do, I never once asked to only work these hours)?
If you got this far sorry for rambling on, I find it so hard to explain in words. Thank you for reading
