Early miscarriage
On Sunday morning I woke up to find that I had been bleeding in the night and had about a 2cm stain in my pj's. I then started to get cramping so my sister made me go to A&E where they told me that as well as a urine infection they thought I may be having a threatened miscarriage and booked me in for a scan this afternoon. I had still been bleeding very lightly up until today. They did an external scan. I thought it had to be internal so early on, by their dates I was 6 weeks by mine only 4. I was told that there was no sign of a pregnancy. They then redid a urine -*test*-('") and told me that was negative. I guess I'm just clutching at straws but is it possible to get a negative result from urine that is too dilute ? I have been drinking a pint of water every hour since they told me about the infection on Sunday. Anyway the bleeding has stopped and I have had no more cramping since Monday morning. What I wanted to ask is what is likely to happen now ? Will I get a proper bleed starting in the next couple of days ? Do I have to use towels or are tampons OK ? The doctor didn't really give me any information at all, in fact he barely spoke two words of English and I was too upset to push the point as when I asked what happened next he just started talking about Clomid because I'm over 35 and going back to my GP to talk about investigations. Should I do that even though we got pg on our first try ? My head is everywhere at the moment. I never expected to feel this way for what logically I know was not much more than a bunch of cells that I had a 1 in 4 chance of loosing. But then I'm not exactly thinking logically at the moment.

KJB I'm so sorry this is happening to you.
I have no first hand experience but please don't think it was "just a bunch of cells" - to you it was real and so is the pain you are feeling.
I don't think you can "dilute" your urine to give a negative -*test*-('") but I am sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong.
I hope you can get some answers and I also hope that you can get all the support you need from friends/family as well as everyone on here.

O no, I am so so sorry that you are going through this, i honestly wish i could say or do something that would make this easier for you.
I would suggest you make an appointment with your GP or phone up the EPU where you had your scan and just ask them your questions, it's better to have knowledge on your side.
I'm not sure about your question about bleeding as i had an evrpc operation so didn't pass the baby naturally - maybe someone else can answer this question.
Thinking logically isn't always the best thing - you have to grieve for the loss of your baby, regardless of how developed it was, it was still your baby.
I am truely sorry you are going through this. Take care and be strong. x

:bighug: I think these doctors forget that we are human and that this doesn't happen to us everyday!!!
Anyway, chick I got heavy bleeding about a week after I was told I had m/c and was told NOT to use tampons!!! Not sure why though! You won't think logically, I don't think anyone ever does in this situation, but if you want to chat etc... we are here for you chick xxx

Awww kjb, I'm really sorry to hear this - however, if you think you're only 4 weeks then I would say yes, it is too soon to do an external scan and also, at such an early stage there is every chance your wee would be very dilute because of all the water you've been drinking.
I guess my advice would be to do another -*test*-('") yourself first thing in the morning when the hcg levels will be at their strongest.
Like the others have said, if the worst has happened then its only natural to feel bereft - I had an early m/c before I had Ben and I almost felt guilty for feeling so bad about something that was barely there....
Take one day at a time - and were here if you need us xxx

kjb...I've just been looking back at your BFP thread and if AF was due on the 12th Nov then you are indeed 6 weeks, not 4.....
It's still possible that it was too early for an external scan (I had internal ones at 5 & 6 weeks) but not too sure whether it would be too early for any wee to show up enough hcg.....
I would still do another -*test*-('"), just for my own piece of mind, then at least you know and you can take things from there
Thinking of you xx

im sorry i cant answer any of your questions but i just want to give you a bighug. you're right it is just a bunch of cells but in your head it was so much more, so you shouldnt feel like you have to be thinking logically. the nurses at the EPU i went to were all so nice and said it was ok to call even if i just wanted to cry down the line! lol! so im sure calling themw ould help you understand a little more of what happens next in terms of what your body will do.
take care of yourself

SO sorry to read thos post kjb. My thoughts are with you. Take time for yourself xxx
I had very little bleeding for a couple of weeks after I was told Id m'c. I was given a choice of doing it naturally or having an erpc. I decided to do it naturally. After a couple of weeks, I had terrible bleeding and was rushed to A&E for an emergency ERPC and a transfusion. I dont mean that to scare you, but just want you to be aware of your options. For peace of mind, Id opt for the erpc if it were to happen again. I was told not to wear tampons to avoid the risk of infection. Also, you are likely to need maxi towels as you are likely to bleed heavily.
All the best kjb and I really hope you manage to get through this hard time and move on to ttc again in the near future.
Nici xx
